Initially the idea of the tour was to play some older, pre-quartet material that they had not played for some time. But as they got together to rehearse, they realized that they all had new material which lent itself quite well to trio arrangements. The result was an entire set of new material, and the audiences loved it. The tour was such a success that the band decided to do more regular trio tours in the future, as well as continuing with their quartet work. Regular trio performances called for a new trio CD which represented what the band was currently playing. And that's how this new “Trio” CD was born. The music reveals the same uncanny ensemble playing that the band is famous for, inventive arrangements, and the kind of tunes that claim squatters' rights in your brain. Enhanced CD includes two videos of live Trio performance from the 2002 Nordic Roots Festival. FRIFOT SLURING (NSD 6076 enhanced CD) "Sluring" is a crowning achievement for this venerable Swedish trio, with inventive arrangements and diverse instrumentation which only enhance their passion for the pastoral inventions inspired by the sweeping Swedish countryside. Ale Möller once again amazes with his command of many instruments, stringed and blown. And fiddler Per Gudmundson also provides a healthy dose of the unique Swedish bagpipe. But as usual, it's Willemark that literally takes your breath away, with her pure tone and emotive delivery. Enhanced CD features a live television performance. HEDNINGARNA 1989-2003 (NSD 6075 Ice Price $12) Considered by many to be the true inventors of the New Nordic movement, this career retrospective of Hedningarna goes back to their beginnings as an acoustic Swedish trio, spans 14 years and five recordings, and includes a rare remix and two brand new tracks by the current electro/acoustic, Swedish/Finnish sextet. Hedningarna's influence can be felt in virtually every major Nordic roots band performing today. They were the first to break through to the rock and rave circuits, and show a new generation how ancient Nordic folk music can be relevant to so many modern musical styles. A definitive document of a revolutionary band. <<>> NEW ON ESD WENDY CARLOS BY REQUEST (ESD 81692 enhanced CD), SECRETS OF SYNTHESIS (ESD 81702 enhanced CD, Ice Price $12) The final two reissues of the classic Wendy Carlos catalog. “By Request” is one of Wendy’s most rare recordings, originally released in the 70’s in response to numerous requests by her fans for her unique interpretations of some classics as well as a few “pop” songs in the mix. “Secrets of Synthesis” features Wendy giving a guided tour of the ins-and-outs of her electronic instruments and techniques. All ESD Wendy Carlos CDs feature “Hi-D 20-bit” sound and contain extended notes and content from www.wendycarlos.com as enhanced files. <<>> NEW ON OMNIUM FIAMMA FUMANA RISE ABOVE (OMM 2034) From the mountains of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy, Fiamma Fumana is simultaneously a tribute to women’s singing traditions in Italy (like the choirs of mondine, the rice gatherers who were all young girls), and a revitalization of that tradition by a new generation and its musical culture = electronic dance music, the most natural musical expression for young people in 21st century, post-industrial, affluent Italy. The result is an intriguing blend of old Italian songs and dance tunes played to new Italian dance grooves, traditional ballads and state-of-the art electronics (with strong black coffee!) REPTILE PALACE ORCHESTRA WE KNOW YOU KNOW (OMM 2033) This Group of Seven is known to inhabit a small city in the center of the North American continent. Supposedly they consider Earth their ancient outpost and want to have complete control over it because their planet is becoming unable to adequately support life. Thus, the RPO have scanned our world's dance music traditions. It is an established fact that their audio transmissions induce uncontrollable movements in key segments of the population. The Group warrants that "No animals, fish, or reptiles were harmed in the making of this record, however some insects and isopods were sacrificed. We were just following orders. Now we know you know." <<>> NORTHSIDE BUYERS SERVICE Join the NorthSide Buyers Service: automatically receive all new NorthSide releases at least two weeks before they are available in stores.
