Global Rhythm Magazine's November 2002 issue, spotlights Sweden. Garmarna graces the cover, with articles featuring many other NorthSide artists. The magazine also comes with a FREE CD with tracks by Garmarna, Väsen, Hoven Droven, Harv, Ranarim, and Frifot. Friday, September 13 The 2002 Nordic Roots Festival complete performance and workshop schedules and information can be found at www.nordicroots.org. This includes Mari Boine's replacment on Sunday night with Hedningarna (featuring singers Tellu and Liisa Matveinen). Friday, July 12 The Cedar Cultural Center is now hosting and maintaining the website for the Nordic Roots Festival. The address is www.nordicroots.org . Check here for all of the latest festival information. Tuesday, August 14 Värttinä's performance at the 2001 Nordic Roots Festival can be seen on Minneapolis Public Access Cable TV. Channel 67, Saturday August 18 at 8:30 pm and on Channel 17, Sunday August 26 at 11:00 pm. Wednesday, July 11 KFAI radio will broadcast Ellika Frisell's concert from Nordic Roots Festival 2001 on the show "Century Song" -- Sunday, July 15th (9-11am central time). Listen online at www.kfai.org. Tuesday, June 26 Rhythm Magazine on Harv: "Magnus and Daniel boil and bake traditional fiddle tunes alone and with deep resonant drums and willow flutes, as the melodies bubble and simmer over a drone of low fiddle notes." Thursday, June 14 The Mountain Stage show with Swåp will air the week after June 15th. On their site you can also find your local station that airs the show and time. Once you've exhausted the entire NorthSide & Omnium catalogs (!), this could be your next step in the relentless pursuit of exciting international music online. Wednesday, May 9 Wisconsin Public Radio's Simply Folk with Judy Rose program will broadcast the first half of the Nyckelharpa Orchestra's Madison concert (recorded in April) on June 17th. Monday, April 16 KFAI radio (90.3 and 106.7 FM) is broadcasting and webcasting a number of Festival artist interviews starting Wednesday the 18th, as well as the entire Friday night concert with Ranarim and Hoven Droven. Friday, April 13 Nordic Roots Festival tickets are selling quickly. Check the website for the latest updates. Just added, a second midnight concert with fiddler Ellika Frisell. Wednesday, April 11 Twin Cities Public Television (www.tpt.org) presents "Nordic Roots Music," a 1-hour program with NorthSide artists Hedningarna, Ola Bäckstrom, Frifot, Sanna, Groupa, Swåp, Hoven Droven, Gjallarhorn, and Väsen. Thursday, April 5 Nordic Roots Festival complete workshop schedule is up now. Eight sessions with masters of instruments such as fiddle, nyckelharpa, jews harp, accordion, and the human voice.
A special Midnight show on Friday April 20 has been added for the Hurdy-Gurdy Project (Stefan from Garmarna and Totte from Hedningarna). All part of the Nordic Roots Festival April 19-22 in Minneapolis. Monday, April 2 CMJ New Music Monthly has an interview with Värttinä. Wednesday, March 21 Nordic Roots Festival Update: A preliminary workshop schedule has just been posted.

Note: the site seems to require Internet Explorer. Monday, March 5 Wimme is interviewed on National Public Radio's All Things Considered today. The 5-minute piece will run at the end of the program. Tuesday, February 13 In a quick stopover in the Twin Cities, Gjallarhorn visited the studios of Twin Cities Public Television (TPT). Their appearance may be broadcast throughout Minnesota on the Newsnight MN program Thursday February 15th. Check local listings for confirmation. The performance will be archived on the TPT website. Wednesday, February 7 Värttinä's Ilmatar reviewed in CMJ: "A stunning tour de force, its breathtaking female vocals soar atop an ever-changing six-piece instrumental backdrop." They're playing on Newsnight Minnesota from Twin Cities Public Television. Their performance is archived for web view...find the January 16 show and scroll to the 22-minute mark. Read an interview on www.rootsworld.com with Hughes De Courson, member of French folk-rock band Malicorne, and producer of Värttinä's new CD Ilmatar. The NorthSide edition of the album is eagerly awaited -- it will be in stores February 13th. Tuesday, January 2 Master accordionist Maria Kalaniemi's Ahma has already shipped to our Buyers Service members and will be in stores January 23rd.
